Microsoft Intune is a cloud service used to manage devices and applications. It helps a business apply an agreed standard to company devices without relying on each employee to configure everything themselves.
What problem does Intune solve?
Employees may work from an office, from home or while travelling. The business still needs to know that supported devices receive the right settings, updates and applications wherever they are being used.
Intune gives the support provider a central way to manage that position.
What can Intune manage?
Depending on the device, licence and agreed setup, Intune can help with:
- enrolling company devices into management;
- applying security and configuration settings;
- installing and updating agreed applications;
- checking whether a device meets the required standard;
- supporting encryption and recovery-key management; and
- taking appropriate action when a device is lost or no longer in use.
What does the employee see?
A well-planned setup should make the employee’s experience simpler. Required applications and settings can arrive automatically, while access rules help protect business information without asking the employee to understand the technology behind them.
Intune and secure access
Device information can be used alongside Microsoft Entra sign-in controls. That allows the organisation to make decisions based on both the person signing in and the condition of the device being used.
The controls need to be introduced carefully. Poorly planned settings can prevent legitimate work, which is why testing and a clear support route matter.
Intune is an ongoing service
The initial setup creates the baseline. Ongoing management keeps devices, applications and policies aligned as employees join, roles change and Microsoft releases new capabilities.
